Short Stories

Occasionally, I write short stories that capture the spirit of the TIME Agency series—blending cryptozoology, craft beer, and the unexplained into standalone adventures. These tales explore the darker corners of the unknown, sometimes featuring familiar characters and sometimes venturing into new territory. Each story is a journey into the strange and mysterious, perfect for readers looking for a quick escape into the world of cryptids and creatures.

Struggling with writer's block while grading papers on a Friday night, Mark decides a walk to his favorite local breweries might help clear his mind. What starts as a casual evening of craft beer and conversation at Arizona Wilderness and The Perch turns into a terrifying encounter with a massive bird-like creature in downtown Chandler—giving birth to the legend of the Santanimal.

This story first appeared in the back of Champ & A Bit of Sunshine when it was released as a 6" x 9" book. When the book was republished in a smaller size, it was not included.

When writer's block threatens to derail his career, Mark Trollinger makes a fateful pilgrimage to Key West's Fort East Martello Museum to meet Robert the Doll. What begins as a desperate search for darkness in his writing becomes something far more sinister when Robert's malevolent presence takes hold, transforming Mark's work—and his soul—in ways he never imagined.
